A short journey through time looking at HB Protective Wear's past
THE STORY BEGINS IN NEUWIED
The economy is booming. Herbert Berthold founds a wholesale drapery business called Tuchgroßhandel Neuwied and starts supplying bespoke tailors, authorities and fire brigades with fine fabrics.
HB STARTS PRODUCING PROTECTIVE CLOTHING
HB produces protective clothing for the first time – this is a growing market and the company concentrates on the following segments: protection for welders, protection against flames and protection from chemicals.
COMPANY RELOCATES TO THALHAUSEN
New headquarters: The good links to the A3 motorway make the rural setting of Thalhausen the perfect choice. For the first time, HB has its own production facilities.
HB extends its areas of competence to include clothing for cleanrooms and spray painting facilities. Patented innovations protect the skin of the workers and the products being produced.
HIGH-TECH WITH AN IMPRESSIVE DESIGN
The HABETEX suit for paint sprayers wins a design award at the A+A trade fair.
THE NEW GENERATION
Klaus Berthold, the son of the company's founder, joins the management board and enriches the company by bringing his international experience of the textiles industry to bear.
COMPANY HONOURED AS A MODEL OF SUCCESS
In 1997, Rainer Brüderle (then Minister of Economic Affairs) presents Herbert Berthold with the Rhineland-Palatinate Economics Medal.
PIONEER OF GROUP WORK
HB is the first German manufacturer of work clothing to switch production over to group work. The average production time drops from 15 to three working days.
A NEW LOGISTICS CENTRE
The company celebrates 50 years – and puts its ultramodern logistics centre into operation. The overall supply chain is optimised and speeded up.
A LEADER IN THE ESD SEGMENT
HB acquires the ESD business of nsp Sicherheitsprodukte GmbH. This turns the company into Europe's leading supplier within this booming segment.
2011 DAY SHIFT CLOTHING FOR FIRE BRIGADES
HB subsidiary Arbeitsschutz Leip GmbH & Co. KG acquires the rights to the flammgard® brand name, which is synonymous with the high-quality day shift clothing used by fire brigades.
