HB donates for earthquake victims in Turkey

One day after the devastating earthquake in the south of Turkey, HB Protective Wear spontaneously appealed to its staff for donations in kind on Tuesday, 7 February. Within only 24 hours, so much was collected that it barely fit into the HB bus. Among other things, the employees provided tents, blankets, sleeping mats, sleeping bags, winter clothing for adults and children, baby food, suitcases and hygiene articles, supplemented by helmets and other warm clothing from the HB product portfolio. First deliveries already well arrived in the region.

The next day, everything was taken to the collection point in Neuwied. What had started as a private initiative of a handful of people developed into an extensive fundraising campaign that brought together several truckloads. 

 

After the customs formalities had been completed, for which among other things the goods had to be loaded separately according to type, the first load set off for Kahramanmaraş on Thursday, 10 February. The region in the very south of Turkey was the epicentre of the quake.

 

Thanks to reliable information from HB staff with Turkish roots and immediate contact to the charity organisers, it is certain that the first HB donations reached the central warehouse in nearby Gaziantep in the earthquake zone by the end of the following week. From there, the donations will be further distributed.

Another truckload with lots of donated goods reached the town near the Syrian border on Monday 20 February. "We hope to be able to give the people in their great need at least a little warmth and help and the feeling that we are with them in our thoughts," says Klaus Berthold, owner of HB Protective Wear.
